John W. Nassivera grew up in Hudson Falls, New York. One of his favorite childhood activities was listening to his mother tell tales on the front porch of their home. Every story depicted his brothers, sisters, and friends as comrades in arms, experiencing the joys of friendship and learning the importance of being a good person. No matter the challenge, the kids of William Street came out on top. The Garden Raid (available on CreateSpace/Amazon also Barnes & Noble) is John W. Nassivera’s first book. John’s approach to writing is rooted in the same stories and traits shared on the front porches that many of us grew up on.
John Nassivera worked for the New York City Department of Education for over 30 years. In 2005, he designed Explorations Academy, a new small High School in the Bronx, and became the founding principal. During his professional career as an educator, John received the NYC Dept. of Education Service Award and presented at the NSTA, 2000 Conference with the American Museum of Natural History. He is a published author (“Teaching Exceptional Children” and “Intervention in School and Clinic”) and formerly served as an educator within the Departments of Curriculum and Education for the City Universities (Lehman College, Hunter College, and City University).
John currently serves as the Director of Education for the Champions Basketball League, where he designs and guides educational and community programs.
